Dwelling in the Compassionate Heart: A Day of Metta with Leza Lowitz

Updated: Jun 17, 2021

Saturday March 28, 1:00-7:00pm

Spring signals new beginnings and nature’s renewal. In this special offering, we will renew our spirits by cultivating deeper love and compassion for ourselves and others through a variety of approaches to Metta Bhavana–Lovingkindness meditation. In Pali, “metta” means “love” or “lovingkindness” and “bhavana” means “cultivation.” This cornerstone of the Theravadan Buddhist tradition is a heart-centered practice that allows us to send love and acceptance to ourselves and others. This helps develop a peaceful heart, so we can heal our pain and bring more harmony and balance to our lives.

Metta invites us to develop our compassionate nature with equanimity, steadfastness and grace. In this day-long retreat, we will explore a variety of approaches that help to awaken kindness towards ourselves and empathy towards others. Practices include standing meditation, walking meditation, lying-down meditation, seated meditation, journalling, self-reflection, partner work, Q & A, and more. We will end with an Inner Child Metta meditation, cultivating lovingkindness to all of the many selves that reside inside of us–past, present and future. Through the energy of mercy and the cultivation of openness, we can nurture and awaken the compassionate heart.

Total beginners to experienced meditators to teachers are welcome to attend. No prior meditation experience is necessary. Sun and Moon Yoga has plenty of bolsters, props and even chairs to sit on if needed. All participation is voluntary and at your own ease.

Note: This will be Sun and Moon Founder Leza Lowitz’s final workshop in Japan for a while. Leza is grateful for 17 years of support and looks forward to sharing these beloved mindfulness practices with you in community.
